In EAA project, aluminium silicate wool shall be used for heat insulation. The insulation thickness shall be in accordance with below table.

The insulation thickness shall be in accordance with Thickness Chart in Paragraph 9 of the attachment 4185-XL-SG-000001 Rev 0 General Specification for Hot Service Insulation.

4 GENERAL DESIGN
4总体设计

4.1 Insulation shall be required for heat conservation, process control, and protection of personnel from injury.
4.1保温过程控制和保护人员免受伤害需要保温。

4.2 Extent of insulation requirements shall be as noted on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams. Thickness of insulation for piping, vessels and equipment shall be determined by reference to operating temperatures and to the applicable Insulation Thickness Charts.Insulation thickness shall not be changed when heat tracing is applied unless otherwise noted on drawings.

4.3 Pipe covering shall be used for piping up to and including 36” diameter. Over 48” diameter, both piping cover and mitered lags cut from flat block may be used. Curved or "V" grooved blocks may be used if economical and available.

4.4 Insulation thickness for jacketed piping systems shall be based on the operating temperature of the jacket fluid

4.5 Piping, vessels, equipment, and instruments requiring insulation shall be clean,dry and free of surface contaminants such as oil, grease, dirt, moisture, ice or snow prior to application.

4.6 Painting (by others), shall be in accordance with Specification 4185-VW-SG-000001, prior to the application of insulation.

4.7 Insulation of personnel protection shall be installed only in accessible areas where operating temperature of piping is 60 and above and will present a safety hazard because of location. Extent of safety insulation shall not exceed 2.1 m above nor more than 0.75 m away from accessible areas. Extent of safety insulation requirements shall be indicated on piping drawings. Vessels, equipment, pumps, valves, flanges, and unions shall not be insulated for personnel protection; however, if upon field inspection a possible hazard is evident, insulation, shields, guards, or other means of protection shall be provided to prevent personnel from coming in contact with hot surfaces.
4.7人员保护绝缘安装管道工作温度为60及以上的可接近区域,且由于位置的原因,存在安全隐患安全绝缘的范围不应超过2.1m以上,也不应超过可触及区域的0.75 m。安全绝缘要求的范围在管道图纸上注明容器、设备、泵、阀门、法兰U形接头进行绝缘保护人员;但是,如果现场检查发现可能存在危险提供绝缘、屏蔽、防护装置其他保护措施,以防止人员接触热表面。

4.8 Pressure tests shall be completed before insulation is installed. If insulation is applied before testing, all welds, threads, and bolted connections shall be left uninsulated and exposed until completion of testing. Exposed insulation shall be weatherproofed to prevent ingress of moisture. Shop welds may be insulated if the item has been pressure tested in the shop.

Where elbow covers are not available in preformed aluminum, they shall be aluminum gore type or fabricated from glass fiber laminate consisting of long high strength glass fibers uniformly embedded in an organic resin (F.R.P) molded to a uniform thickness of 3.2 mm, color to be aluminum gray and having a flame spread of 25 or less per ASTM- E84.

6 PROTECTION OF MATERIALS AND WORK
6材料和工程的保护

6.1 Insulation and accessory materials subject to damage from dampness and harmful temperature extremes shall be protected from time of delivery until weather protection is applied

6.1.1 Temporary warehouse facilities will be considered adequate protection during working hours provided the materials are off the ground, out of direct sunlight and are not subjected to damage due to insufficient drainage and/or condensation.

7.2绝缘应用

7.2.1 Insulation shall be applied in a minimum number of layers as obtained in commercially available thickness.

7.2.2 When Aluminium silicate wool preformed pipe insulation is applied, pipe insulation shall be secured with wire ties on center and 300mm from center. Except Aluminium silicate wool, single thickness sectional pipe insulation shall be secured with wire(insulation weight is 30kg/m below) or strap(13 mm wide x 0.4mm thick, insulation weight is 30kg/m and above) ties on 230mm centers. Multi-layer sectional pipe insulation shall be applied with all joints staggered and shall have both layers secured by wire(insulation weight is 30kg/m below) or strap(13 mm wide x 0.4mm thick, insulation weight is 30kg/m and above) ties on 230 mm centers. The insulation shall be applied with joints tight and with all cracks and voids filled with insulating cement. Expansion joint filler material shall be inserted in the circumferential joints of the expansion joints. The filler shall be loose Aluminium silicate wool preformed felt filling a space 40 mm wide and the thickness of the insulation. The filler shall be compressed to a minimum thickness when installed by the insulator.

7.2.3 Fittings 2" and smaller, such as elbows, tees, caps, reducers, screwed or socket weld valves, swages and stub-in connections shall be insulated with continuous pipe insulation to a thickness equal to the insulation on adjacent piping. 7.2.4 Insulation shall be stopped at flange or union connections to permit removal of bolts without damage to the insulation. Each termination shall be "square or bevel cut" and weatherproofed with a metal bevel cap. Clearance shall be stud length plus 25 mm.

7.2.6 In vertical piping which straight run is 3m and longer, insulation support ring shall be installed. Spacing between each insulation support rings shall not be more than 6 m.

7.3 Weatherproofing Application

7.3.1 Straight portions of insulated lines shall have the basic insulation jacketed with metal jacket and have all joints lapped 50 mm and arranged to shed water. The jacket shall be secured with bands on 300 mm centers. A band shall be applied over each circumferential lap joint. Jacketing on vertical lines 6" and smaller shall be supported by a minimum of two S-clips. For vertical lines 8" and larger, a minimum of four S-clips shall be used

A tack coat of mastic shall be applied over the dry cement, followed by a layer of reinforcing fabric installed wrinkle-free. Over the reinforcing fabric, a 3.2 mm thick dry coat of mastic weather coat shall be applied with a smooth finish. This finish shall extend approximately 50 mm under the adjacent pipe jacketing. No porosity shall exist in mastic weather- coating when dry.

8 APPLICATION - VESSELS AND EQUIPMENT INSULATION

8.1 General

8.1.1 Vessels and equipment shall be insulated when indicated on the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams in accordance with the Thickness Charts of this specification unless otherwise noted on drawings.

8.1.2 Insulation thickness for vessels and equipment coded "Is" shall be in accordance with Thickness Chart in Paragraph 9.

8.1.7 Stiffener rings on vessels and equipment shall be insulated with the same thickness of insulation as the adjacent surfaces. The stiffener rings shall be "boxed" with insulation and the areas between the outer flange and the vessel shall be left void.

8.1.8 For vessels and tubular equipment 36" diameter and smaller, preformed pipe insulation shall be used where applicable.

8.1.9 Vertical vessels which have a significant difference (greater than 10 ) in operating temperature from top to bottom may have the lower portion of the vessel insulated for the bottom operating temperature and upper portion insulated for the vessel's overall average operating temperature.The vessel engineer should be consulted to determine the feasibility of the above and, if feasible, the optimum point where the insulation thickness break should occur. Applicable thicknesses shall be as indicated on the vessel drawing and the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.

8.2 Insulation Application

8.2.1 Blanket insulation on vessels and equipment shall be applied with staggered joint arrangement. Top and bottom edges shall be securely tied over support rings with band on 300 mm centers. Vertical and horizontal seams shall be laced together by interlocking the wire mesh and with wire ties where necessary. The insulation shall then be secured in place with bands spaced on 300 mm centers.

8.2.2 Heads shall have the insulation shaped so that all sections closely fit the contour of the head and laced together with band on 300 mm centers. Unexposed heads shall have the insulation secured with wire to insulation supports provided by the vessel manufacturer.

The metal jacketing shall be secured with bands spaced on 150 mm centers with one band at each circumferential lap. Loops shall be placed on 4.5 m centers but not less than two loops per band.

8.3.4 On horizontal vessels and tubular equipment, the metal jacketing shall be secured with bands spaced on 300mm centers.

The overlapshall be fastened to the jacketing on the shell with sheet metal screws on 130 mm centers. The metal head covers shall also be secured in place at the circumferential overlap with a band.

The overlap shall be fastened to the jacketing on the shell with sheet metal screws on 130 mm centers. The metal covers shall also be secured in place at the circumferential overlaps with a band.

Over the reinforcing fabric, a 3.2 mm thick dry coat of mastic weather coat shall be applied with a smooth finish

13.1 Insulation Details - Vertical Vessels Hot Service
13.1保温详图-垂直容器高温运行

A. Flange insulation, when required, to be included in piping insulation subcontract.

B. For detail of rain hood and insulation at nozzle, see para.13.2

To prevent CUI(under operating temperature 175 ), when maintenance work is performed that the insulation of the upper and lower 600mm near stiffener ring surrounding should be followed the below requirements;

This is to be used for operating temperatures up to 204ºC; for over 204ºC, use metal jacket.

4 GENERAL DESIGN

4.1 Insulation shall be required to control fluid temperature, surface condensation, noise, and conserve refrigeration.

4.2 Extent of insulation requirements shall be as noted on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams. Thickness of insulation for piping, vessels and equipment shall be determined by reference to operating temperatures and to the applicable Insulation Thickness Charts, Section 10.0.

The extent and thickness of noise control insulation shall be determined by the Noise engineer and so noted on the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.

6 PROTECTION OF MATERIALS AND WORK

6.1 Insulation and accessory materials subject to damage from dampness and harmful temperature extremes shall be protected from time of delivery until weather protection is applied

6.6 Insulation which becomes wet due to lack of or inadequate weather protection, either temporary or permanent, shall be removed and replaced with dry insulation before proceeding with application of metal jacket or weatherproofing compounds. Materials which are inherently water resistant, such as cellular glass and perlite, need not be replaced if exposed to water; however, permanent weather protection shall not be applied until the insulation surface has dried.

7.1.3 All pipe, valves, flanges and fittings shall be insulated and tightly sealed. Valves shall be insulated up to and including bonnet flanges but not including yoke or packing gland.

7.2.2 Pressure tests shall, if possible, be completed before insulation is installed. If insulation is applied before testing, all welds, threads, and bolted connections shall be left uninsulated and exposed until completion of testing. 7.2.4 Single thickness sectional pipe insulation shall be applied in such a manner that all voids are eliminated. The butt edges shall be coated with a 1.6 mm thick layer of joint sealer. Each layer of insulation shall be secured with pressure sensitive tape or bands on approximately 230 mm centers. Tape or bands shall be placed within 13 mm of end of each section. When applying double layer insulation, stagger or offset outer layer joints from the inner layer joints. Only the outer layer of double layer insulation shall have a vapor barrier. The longitudinal overlaps of the vapor barrier jacketing shall be sealed with an adhesive. All circumferential joints shall be sealed with a foil-to-mylar 75 mm wide strip applied over the vapor barrier jacketing

7.2.5 Insulation contraction joints shall be provided at each weld and equally spaced, not to exceed 3.6 m maximum centers. Joints shall be 40 mm wide, packed with 50 mm of fiberglass blanket. When applying double layer insulation, the contraction joint on the outer layer shall be offset 300 mm from the joint on the inner layer.

7.3.1 Straight portions of insulated piping shall have the basic insulation covered with metal jacketing, with all joints lapped 50 mm and arranged to shed water. The jacketing shall be secured with bands installed on 300 mm centers.

7.3.5 Irregularly shaped surfaces, which cannot be suitably weatherproofed with metal jacketing, shall be finished with a mastic coating. A tack coat of mastic shall be applied, followed by a layer of reinforcing fabric installed wrinkle-free. Over the reinforcing fabric, a 3.2 mm thick dry coat of mastic weathercoat shall be applied with a smooth finish. This finish shall extend approximately 50 mm under the adjacent pipe jacketing. No porosity shall exist in mastic weathercoating when dry.

8 APPLICATION - VESSEL AND EQUIPMENT INSULATION

8.1.1 Vessels and equipment shall be insulated when indicated on the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams in accordance with the thickness chart of this specification unless otherwise noted on the Vessel or Equipment Drawings.

8.1.2 All attachments secured to the vessel or equipment that project through the insulation shall be insulated. Projections shall be externally insulated from the point where it projects through the insulation for a distance of four times the thickness of the base insulation.

8.1.3 Manhole covers, flanges, nameplates and all other appurtenances shall be insulated. Where periodic maintenance or inspection is required, such as manholes and nameplates, design provisions for removability and replacement without damage to the insulation.

Insulation for exposed heads shall be secured with bands attached to a floating ring on the top and to a circumferential band at the tangent line of the vessel head. Band spacing shall be on 300 mm maximum center at the tangent line. For unexposed heads, the bands shall be fastened to the attachments provided by the vessel manufacturer.

8.3.6 Heads on horizontal vessels and tubular equipment and bottom exposed heads on vertical vessels shall be finished with metal jacketing with a minimum of 150 mm turned under the shell metal jacketing. The metal head cover shall be secured in place at the circumferential over-lap with a band equipped with a breather spring. All metal joints shall have weatherproof seams.

The metal covers shall be secured in place at the circumferential overlaps with a band equipped with a breather spring

8.3.8 Pumps, turbines and irregularly shaped surfaces which cannot be suitably weatherproofed with metal jacketing shall be finished with a tack coat of mastic applied over the vapor barrier, followed by a layer of reinforcing fabric installed wrinkle-free. Over the reinforcing fabric, a 3.2 mm thick dry coat of mastic weathercoat shall be applied with a smooth finish. The finish shall extend approximately 150 mm beyond the insulation at all metal projections to assure a good seal.

12.6 Insulation Details - Storage Tank Cold Service
12.6保温详图-储罐冷态服务

A. Over roof insulation apply a tack coat of vapor barrier mastic to dry insulation. While still wet, embed a layer of 5 x 5 glass fabric into the mastic. Overlap cloth at least 75mm (3"). Before surface dries, a second coat of mastic shall be applied over the glass cloth to a uniform thickness of not less than 1.6mm(1/16")(wet).

A. Surfaces to be insulated shall be clean, dry and free from frost, rust, etc. Prime all metal surfaces with a brush coat of rust inhibiting primer (if not already painted.).

B. When paint is dry, lay up cold insulation blocks using joint sealer on all butt edges and ends of outer layer or single layer. Stagger joints. Use gobs of sealer as temporary.

C. Weatherproofing heads and manholes. Over insulation apply a tack coat of vapor barrier mastic. Before surface dries, apply a second coat of mastic to a uniform thickness of not less than 1.6 mm (1/16") (wet)
