Assessment Brief Details
评估简介详情
The purpose of the assignment for this module is to help you reflect on your skills, career aspirations, and facilitate your ability to research an industry-specific topic. You will learn to identify and formulate an inquiry/research question that defines what you would like to learn, analyse academic information, and help you gain professional skills relevant to employment. You are required to submit a Portfolio of work consisting of three components: 1. Academic Literature Review related to a fashion management topic (2500 words) 2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) 3. Covering Letter Overall Structure of the Portfolio Title page: should contain module code and module name; topic title, word count (see Appendix 1 for an example) Table of Contents List of figures (if using any) Section 1: Literature Review List of References Section 2: Curriculum Vitae (CV) Section 3: Covering Letter Appendices (if using) - can include job adverts, personal development and reflection exercises, quizzes, skills analyses, etc – follow the tutors guidance. Appendices should be clearly labelled and referenced in the main body of the portfolio. |
Section 1: Literature Review (80% Weight) Write a literature review that includes a balanced number of sources of your choice – a mix of high-quality articles, books, chapters, company reports - focusing on a topic relevant to the contemporary fashion industry and your professional career aspirations. These sources should provide relevant scholarly insights and concepts to create a deep understanding of your chosen topic – you will identify either a point of interest or a research gap, followed by a specific Research Question. Point of interest – is something that you read in the different sources that interests you, something you would like to explore more. Research gap – is something that previous research (carried out by academics) has not discussed or looked at, a potential for a future research project. Fashion research includes a wide range of interdisciplinary subjects, drawing from various fields and attracting the attention of a variety of industry professionals. Fashion research contributes to a deeper understanding of the industry’s complex landscape and to creating more sustainable alternatives to meet the demands of an ever-conscious world. As an MA Fashion Management student, you have the chance to contribute to such research by choosing to investigate a contemporary fashion topic that you are curious about or perhaps passionate about. Bellow are some examples* of contemporary fashion topics: the environmental impact of fast fashion and sustainable alternatives the ethical implications of the global fashion supply chain the psychology behind consumer behavior and its implications on buying attitudes. the influence of Artificial Intelligence on the fashion industry etc * Please note that the above are just suggestions, and you can find many other topics that are not listed above. During your PAS1 teaching sessions, you will have the chance to further discuss alternative fashion topics. There are three key components in a Literature Review: Introduction, main body and conclusion. Introduction (250 to 300 words maximum); to include 4-5 keywords (the words you type into search engines to find what you're looking for). You may also want to follow these suggestions: Start with a short opening paragraph; Give a brief context of the topic (not a detailed history). Provide a context for reviewing the literature. Explain the scope of the review (what key areas of discussions you have included and what you have excluded - know the focus of your research). You can also explain why you have chosen this topic (its importance), with a clear Research Question. You also need to use sources when writing your introduction, which can be from trusted market data, trusted websites, academic books or academic journals. Main body (1900 - 2000 words) this part will contain your discussion of the different sources. This discussion should aim to present a description of the publication; a summary of the publication's main points; a discussion of possible gaps in research; and an evaluation of the publication's contribution to your chosen topic. It’s important that you present a clear line of reasoning throughout your writing. 70% of your information must be from academic sources and the rest from other relevant and trusted sources. It should be divided into paragraphs. Organise it according to themes(**) Do critical analysis of the key sources/claims/arguments. Discussions should be based around the common themes and then move to more specific focus of your research/study. Further details and help on writing a good literature review will be delivered throughout different learning and teaching sessions. You will also be able to find further help on blackboard. Conclusion (up to 200 words) The conclusion should contain no new information. This is the part where you will remind your readers why your specific research forcus is important, by summarising the key aspects of the existing body of the literature. You can identify what is the Point of Interest or define the significant flaws or research gap you identified. List of references The list of references must be formatted following the Harvard System of Citation for both in-text citations and your list of references. Everything you reference in the assignment must be included in the list of references. The list should be located at the end of your conclusion (in a new page). The library provides guidance on how to reference in the Harvard System of Citation style: http://library.soton.ac.uk/sash/referencing Key steps to develop your Literature Review Choose the contemporary fashion topic that you are interested in researching (you will be able to discuss your chosen topic and receive feedback, during your seminar sessions). Develop a Research Question that describes what you would like to find out about that topic – this will help you understand the purpose of the literature review. Start your Library search, looking for sources that include information about your chosen topic. Evaluate and select sources – before reading the full source you can read the abstracts of academic journals and/or introductions from books and skim the texts to determine if they are reliable and relate to your question/topic. (**) Identify themes, debates, and gaps and organise your sources accordingly – choose the most relevant sources and review them. Identify a Point of Interest or a Research Gap. Outline your literature review structure and start writing (you can discuss it with yoiur seminar tutor and receive feedback). You must include references in your work. Finalise your work. Notes: You will have the chance to discuss your work and receive formative feedback at different stages during the semester. To make sure that you are using high-quality academic journals, check that the journal you want to use is in these journal guides: Chartered Association of Business Schools Academic Journal Guide • Scimago journal rankings The references in the bibliography must be written in the Harvard Referencing Style, as found here: http://library.soton.ac.uk/sash/referencing This includes a link to Cite them Right, which will help you with the referencing style. |
Section 2: Curriculum Vitae (10% Weight) You will create a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV) that has been tailored to a fashion position you want. Specific learning and teaching sessions dedicated to CV writing will support this section of the assignment. Include the word count for your CV. |
Section 3: Cover Letter (10% Weight) You are required to find a real advertised job and create a well-crafted cover letter tailored to that specific job you are applying for. It should highlight your academic achievements, relevant coursework, and hands-on experience, demonstrating how they align with the role's requirements. Your cover letter shall introduce you and your skills and qualifications to a potential employer. The cover letter should be relevant to a specific job advertised and showcase your potential and why they should choose you. Include the word count for your Cover letter. |
