This spellbinding fascination propelled me to embark on a self-taught journey into programming, unraveling the secrets of the digital cosmos. As my journey unfolded, I came to understand that Computer Science is not just about acquiring technical prowess; it is a transformative journey that broadens my cognitive horizons. At the outset of my university journey, I did not initially choose to pursue the big data major. However, after a year immersed in the academic environment, I began to discern a profound passion for computer science, with a particular fascination for the field of big data. This epiphany ignited a personal quest to self-educate in programming during my leisure hours, which ultimately culminated in a decision to change my major, allowing me to immerse myself more deeply in the study of big data. Linear algebra and the principles of large-scale database design have emerged as my most cherished subjects. Linear algebra, characterized by its unique “personality” and axiomatic methodology, distills common quantitative relationships from specific objects to forge abstract concepts, such as vector spaces. The computational aspects of linear algebra are centered around determinant computation and matrix elementary transformations, while the theoretical arguments often necessitate the application of more abstract concepts, such as linear dependence and independence. The study of large-scale database design has shed light on the foundational principles of database systems, encompassing data models, architectural design, data integrity, and concurrency control, thereby granting me a holistic understanding of these systems.

In my capacity as a leader, I led a collaborative team to develop an innovative interactive teaching demonstration platform. Our creation encompassed a robust suite of visualization simulation software, meticulously designed to span a diverse array of undergraduate disciplines, thereby igniting a surge of enthusiasm and curiosity among students. The project was meticulously crafted to nurture independent thought, self-directed research, and the skillful ability to actively identify and distill patterns. Throughout the research process, we encountered a myriad of challenges, with the integration of front-end and back-end systems posing particularly daunting obstacles. However, through unwavering perseverance, extensive research, and invaluable guidance from our mentors, we successfully surmounted these hurdles. This experience, which is in perfect harmony with my passion for big data, has significantly enhanced my comprehension of the application and processing intricacies of big data technologies.

During my internship with Sugon Nebula Information Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in July and August 2023, I significantly refined my expertise in data operations. I mastered the art of monitoring system stability through a variety of advanced tools, which in turn deepened my comprehension of intricate system architectures. Through the analysis and resolution of data anomalies using SQL, I sharpened my logical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Engaging in data backup and recovery procedures bolstered my risk management acumen and my ability to respond effectively to emergencies. Additionally, my involvement in daily data management and optimization tasks enriched my understanding of data processing workflows and enhanced my proficiency in data handling. This invaluable experience has provided me with a robust foundation upon which to build my future studies in data science.

My decision to pursue a Master’s degree in Data Science at the University of Glasgow is grounded in a deep appreciation for the university’s esteemed reputation in data science education and research. The university’s strong standing in computer science and information science, combined with its in-depth exploration of data science, assures me of an advanced academic and research environment. The curriculum of the Data Science program aligns closely with my academic background and career aspirations. Core subjects such as Introduction to Data Science and Systems, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Data Scientists, Deep Learning, Information Retrieval, and Network Science will equip me with a comprehensive skill set in data science. I am confident that immersing myself in a culturally diverse setting will further develop my cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills, a valuable asset for both my personal growth and professional development.
