The 9th Summer Letter 🥰 | Some Hilarious Daily Moments 8.12-8.18.2024
1. I found it! "Search"
Hey, how was your week?
This week, I made a discovery that made me laugh out loud. My old laptop broke, and my brother helped me get a new one. This time, the laptop came with two Apple stickers.
My brother had a sudden inspiration and stuck one of them onto the vacuum cleaner, then proudly showed it to me: "How about it? Buy one get one free, the latest Apple vacuum cleaner"
“It's definitely that Apple family's 🍎 flavor!”
At that moment, I was simply stunned and really admired his creativity. What's even funnier is that he stuck another sticker on our Dyson, making it a joint edition.
This also made me realize that sometimes, simple giveaways can also be enhanced with a bit of imagination. All hell breaks loose
Next time you get Apple product stickers, why not try this zero-dollar purchase. 🥰
🐦 The Discovery of Birdsong Around the World
Let me share a discovery that particularly interests me. There are often bird calls echoing in my house, but it is actually the sound coming from a lamp I bought, monotonous. This sparked my curiosity, and I wondered what bird calls sound like in other parts of the world?
So, I found a website called Dawn Chorus that collects bird songs from around the world and allows you to explore bird calls from different countries through a map.
What impressed me was that when I played the bird calls of Richmond, I also heard the sound of airplanes in the background, which gave a very immersive feeling!
If you are also curious about the bird calls in your area, you might as well go and listen; you may have unexpected gains.
2. My Wandering Experience "Test"
After my brother came back, he kept wanting to find a basketball court. So, we went to the Olympic Center and got a membership card.
There is a top-floor climbing area in the gym. Some time ago, my student (Little Stone) wanted to challenge rock climbing, so I took this opportunity to brush up on some basic rock climbing knowledge. Rock climbing is really difficult, especially with the high demands on grip strength.
The Lancet mentioned in an article that the signs of human aging start with a decline in grip strength. This gives me more motivation to learn rock climbing~ Below ⬇️ are my gains to share with you.
Today's climbing type
I play Top Rope Climbing. This type of climbing has rope harness protection, with one end of the rope fixed at the top of the rock wall and a machine helping to control the other end. If you are afraid of heights, you can consider Bouldering, which might make you feel a bit scared and weak in the legs.
Equipment used
Climbing shoes: You must wear suitable climbing shoes to ensure stability when stepping on footholds. I have my own pair of climbing shoes, but if you don't, most places have them for rent.
Climbing Techniques
Maintain balance: When climbing, I will keep my body close to the rock wall and try not to lean back, so I can better control my balance and climb more smoothly 😊.
多用腿力:攀爬的时候主要还是靠腿,别全靠手臂,不然手臂会抽筋。脚步要精准点,用脚尖或脚掌踩岩点,这样可以省点力👣,别想太多,停顿太久的话肌肉会很酸。
Use your leg strength more: When climbing, mainly rely on your legs, don't rely entirely on your arms, otherwise your arms will cramp. Your steps should be precise, use your toes or the balls of your feet to step on the rock points, this way you can save some energy👣, don't overthink it, if you pause too long your muscles will get very sore.
Choose rock points: I always choose large and stable rock points for hand and foot support. I generally don't step on those that are too small or too slippery, after all, stability is the most important thing 🙌.
Landing
Active descent: When I reach the end or want to stop, I will slowly push away from the rock wall and descend vertically. It's really important to control your posture, spinning can easily cause you to hit the rock wall, these are all lessons learned from blood🪂.
3. Some "Thoughts"
I heard an interesting topic in my favorite podcast "After School"—if you could, would you be willing to exchange lives with someone else? In this poll, I chose to exchange lives with a creative and brave person.
It turned out that 45% of people made the same choice as me.
Compared to wealth, beauty, and power, wanting to become a creative and brave person seems to be a more difficult and precious thing.
This reminds me of what Kasia Urbaniak said:
The difference between men and women is that men's attention is more on the outside world, they are encouraged tocompete, explore, participate in competitions, and actively seek opportunities;
And women focus more on themselves, they are encouraged toquietly read, write diaries, tidy up their rooms, dress themselves up, wait until they are good enough and get the corresponding opportunities.
I think writing a letter to Zhou is also a way for me to bravely try. By writing letters, I am forced to step out of my comfort zone, to explore and experience the world.
I hope this letter can bring you some thoughts and inspiration. May you, someday in the future, bravely try those things you once hesitated about.
Exchange your life, or change your life.
Your life is in your hands.
4. You Might Not Know "Knowledge"
🌍 The Meaning of the Five Rings
Recently, the Olympics have become a topic of conversation for everyone. Have you ever had this feeling? It's like suddenly realizing that you seem to have never truly understood the deeper meaning of something.
Vancouver has hosted the Winter Olympics, and China has also hosted the Summer Olympics. But it was only recently that I learned the true meaning of the five rings.
The five rings represent the five continents of the world: the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. The five rings are linked together, symbolizing the unity and cooperation of athletes worldwide.
The colors of the five rings represent the colors of the flags of all the countries in the world, at least one color appears on the flag of each country. This discovery gave me a sense of enlightenment. I wonder if you feel the same way.
