How to avoid suprascapular nerve injury during arthroscopic Latarjet surgery: a study of the walking and safety zones of the suprascapular nerve

Objective: Arthroscopic Latarjet surgery transplants the coracoid process to the anterior and inferior glenoid of the shoulder joint and fixes it with two double cortical screws, the tip of which is behind the scapula, may damage the suprascapular nerve, causing pain and weakness in the shoulder joint. The aim of this study was to investigate the three-dimensional anatomical relationship between the suprascapular nerve and the scapula, as well as the risk of screw injury to SSN during Latarjet surgery, and to describe reliable anatomical landmarks for arthroscopic Latarjet surgery. Methods: Part I: (1) 12 fresh adult complete shoulder joint specimens were dissected, 7 of the 12 specimens were right-handed and 8 were male. In order to study the anatomical relationship between the suprascapular nerve and the scapula, the distance between the suprascapular nerve and the anterior edge of the glenoid at 12:00, 11:00, 10:00, 9:00, the level of the suprascapular notch, and the level of the glenoid notch was measured with the glenoid clock system as a reference, and the distance between the suprascapular nerve and the narrowest distance of the glenoid margin and the clock scale were recorded. Define the scapular partition and record the number of branches of the suprascapular nerve in each division. Part 2: (2) The suprascapular nerve is marked with a medical barium line, the shoulder joint specimen is scanned by computed tomography (CT), the scan data is imported into Mimics software for 3D reconstruction, the best fitting circle of the glenoid is drawn in the 3D model, and the distance from the suprascapular nerve to the anterior edge of the shoulder glenoid at 12:00, 11:00, 10:00 and 9:00 is measured according to the glenoid clock system, and the coracoid process osteotomy grafting is simulated. more
