Introduction 导言

This document for dry diving suits has been prepared to meet the needs of persons engaged in underwater activities where the user is breathing underwater, and where thermal comfort and required thermal protection is higher than that provided by a wet suit. A dry suit is also designed to enable the wearers to adjust the gas volume in the suit according to their requirements.

A dry suit may be comprised of one or more pieces. Dry suits may be used in conjunction with a range of accessories including passive and active undergarments, gloves, a hood and other head protection equipment.

The conformity of a dry suit to this document does not imply that it is suitable for all circumstances, nor does the standard make detailed provisions for all the special uses for which dry suits may be utilized.

A dry suit manufactured for special purposes may also:

The level of protection and performance offered by a dry suit may be altered by a number of factors, including the water temperature, the depth of the dive, the diver's work rate and behaviour, and the manner in which the suit has been maintained. The adequacy of the protection provided by a dry suit also depends upon the individual diver's level of cold tolerance. The degree of thermal protection offered by a dry suit is especially problematic. Appropriate material and manikin tests are being developed and refined, but at best they will only be able to provide broad indications of the likely protection provided by a particular suit to an individual diver.

1 Scope 1 范围

This European Standard specifies the construction and performance of dry suits for wear by divers for underwater activities where the user is breathing underwater. Marking, labelling, information meant to be provided at the point of sale and instructions for use are also specified.

Dry suits shall conform to the requirements listed in Table 1, as applicable. Dry suits incorporating optional features shall also conform to the requirements listed in Table 2, as applicable.

Following preliminary tests of resistance to cold and hot storage (5.4.2.1), resistance to seawater (5.4.2.2) and resistance to cleaning, disinfection and decontamination (5.4.2.3) the suit material samples shall be tested in accordance with 5.4.3.1. The mean tear length shall be less than 40 mm .

The seam joining each combination of materials used to manufacture the suit, but excluding wrist, ankle, neck and face seals, shall withstand a tensile load of for 5 minutes applied perpendicular to the seam. After the load test has been carried out, the seam shall not leak or show any visible evidence of permanent deformation or tearing. Testing shall be performed in accordance with 5.3 and 5.4.3.2.

The manufacturer shall use a sizing system and state at least two body dimensions including at least the height and chest girth of the intended user.

The inflation device shall remain functional with a medium pressure of 20 bar. The inflation device shall not leak air during the periods that the device is either activated or inactive Testing shall be performed in accordance with 5.5.1.2 c).

Gas supply shall be able to be disconnected between the hose and the inflation device by a quick release connection.

The male part of the quick release connection shall be fitted to the inflation device. The preferred interface dimensions for the male part are shown in Figure 1.

The male part of the quick release shall not have any sharp edges that can damage any seal in the female part or main body of the suit.

It shall be possible to connect and disconnect the gas supply with either hand when wearing protection gloves (3 fingers, thickness, double-lined) or if applicable, gloves attached to the suit. In the latter case the 3 finger glove test may be done by a third person.

When the inflation hose is tested unpressurized in accordance with 5.5.1.1, the tensile load and the flexibility of the hose shall conform to EN 250.

When any medium pressure hose assembly is tested in accordance with EN 250 the burst pressure and leakage shall conform to EN 250 .

The inflation hose when connected to a male part of the quick release connection shall have a minimum air flow of stpd when connected to a 10 bar supply tested in accordance to 5.5.1.1.

The dry suit intended to be fitted with valves shall be provided with at least an automatic overpressure device and a manually operated deflation device. These two devices may be integrated into one unit.

The joint between the penetrators and the dry suit shall withstand a pulling force of for 10 s . When the joint between each penetrators and the suit is tested in accordance with 5.4.3.5 the bond shall not show visible signs of damage and the suit shall not leak.

4.4.5 Provision for urination

A dry diving suit system intended for continuous dive durations longer than 2 h shall be compatible with one or more systems allowing the diver to urinate. The compatibility shall be tested in accordance with the practical performance test (5.6), and inspected according to 5.3 .

It shall be possible for the suit system to be donned and doffed at an ambient temperature of with the assistance of no more than one person. The time for donning or doffing shall not exceed 10 min . Testing shall be performed in accordance with 5.6.7.2.

Test divers shall be able to carry out all the procedures listed in 5.6 and not report a practical performance score of 4 or more (given in A.1) for more than 3 of the separate test procedures and no score higher than 8 for any procedure. Testing shall be performed in accordance with 5.6.

If a hood is attached to the suit, it shall be constructed in such a way as to ensure that a seal cannot form between the hood and the ear when tested in accordance with 5.6.

If the manufacturer claims the suit material is of a thermal performance class, it shall conform to the requirements for that performance class as specified in EN 14225-1:2017, 4.3.

When suits with thermal insulation are tested in a cold dive in accordance with 5.7.1.2, at no stage during the dive shall the test diver report a thermal comfort score outside 4 to 9 or a perceived exertion score of 5 or more (see A. 2 and A.3).

Materials and seams shall be tested in accordance with 5.7.2.

NOTE It is recognized that most suit inflation and deflation devices are unable to be tested in accordance with 5.7.2. In addition suit inflation and deflation devices would need to show that they offer protection during their operation. Materials with an average normalized breakthrough detection time of 20 min to 60 min shall be deemed to have a low protection index and materials with an average normalized breakthrough detection time of more than 60 min shall be deemed to have a high protection index.

All three suits shall undergo practical performance tests under realistic conditions in accordance with 5.6.

A complete suit, with or without valves in accordance with its intended use as stated by the manufacturer in the instructions for use, shall be used for the test. If attachments, such as a hood, helmet, gloves or boots, are intended to be dry, the suit shall be tested with these attached. All seals of the suit shall be closed. The suit may also be tested inside out, based on the manufacturer's specification.
